A continuing story
Prayer began it. Mission keeps it moving.
Berea Temple began as a prayer meeting in a St. Louis home. Across generations, the form of the ministry has changed, but its heartbeat has remained: Pentecostal faith, courageous mission and room for the next person Jesus brings.
1937
A home prayer meeting
Paul Byerly gathered believers to pray. A new church was born from that simple, faithful beginning.
1950
A permanent home
Under Pastor J. D. Cockman, the congregation dedicated its church building and deepened its worship and missionary identity.
1996
Renewed neighborhood mission
Pastor Jerry Harris led a new season of outward-focused ministry, serving families and rebuilding connection with the surrounding community.
Today
An international calling
Berea Temple is becoming a multicultural church for St. Louis-welcoming immigrants, neighbors and families from every background into one life in Christ.

Meet Pastor Mike Gonzalez.
Pastor Mike has served as Berea Temple's lead pastor since October 2021. With more than twenty years of ministry experience-including church planting and local church leadership-he carries a deep love for St. Louis and a clear calling to help people from every nation know Jesus, grow in faith and find family.
